From 1928 to 1979.5
In 1928, the Department of Chemistry of Jiao Tong University was set up.
In 1937, the Department of Chemistry moving into the French Concession to continue running.
In 1941, Jiao Tong University moved westward to Chongqing, the Department of Chemistry, stop running because of the situation  at that time.
In 1945, Jiao Tong University returned to Shanghai from Chongqing, the Department of Chemistry renewed.
In 1946, the Department of Chemistry Engineering of Jiao Tong University was set up.
In 1952, the Department of Chemistry all moved into  Fudan University, the Department of Chemical Engineering moved into the Co-founder, the East China Institute of Chemical Technology. (East China University of Science and Technology)
In 1953, the  Chemistry Teaching and Research Room  was established.
In 1956, the  Chemistry Teaching and Research Room was moved into Xi'an，Shaanxi province
In 1957,  Jiao Tong University （Shanghai section） reconstructed the  Chemistry Teaching and Research Room.
In 1958, the  Physicochemical and  Analysis of Teaching and Research Room was established.
In May, 1979,  the foundation of Chemistry Teaching and Research Room, the physicochemical analysis Teaching and Research Room , the Department of Electrical Engineering and  Polymer Materials Research Center,  all of them formed  the Department of Applied Chemistry.

From 1979.5 till now
In 1997, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was set up.
