Our Journey of Exploring Multifunctional Metal-Organic Framework Materials through Global Collaboration

Banglin Chen
University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas, USA

Discoveries of novel multifunctional materials have played very important roles to the development of science and technologies and thus to benefit our daily life. Among the diverse materials, metal–organic framework (MOF) materials are rapidly emerging as a unique type of porous and organic/inorganic hybrid materials which can be simply self-assembled from their corresponding inorganic metal ions/clusters with organic linkers and can be straightforwardly characterized by various analytical methods. They exhibit great potentials for a broad range of applications in gas storage, gas separations, enantioselective separations, photonics, chemical sensing, heterogeneous catalysis, proton conductivity, membrane separations and drug delivery. In this talk, I will highlight our efforts and progress on exploring multifunctional metal-organic frameworks through global collaboration.

演讲人简介

Banglin Chen was born in Zhejiang, China. He received his BS (1985) and MS (1988) degrees in Chemistry from Zhejiang University in China, and his PhD (2000) from the National University of Singapore. He is a Dean’s Distinguished Chair Professor, a member of the UTSA Academy of Distinguished Researchers, a Fellow of American of Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a Fellow of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).  Dr. Chen has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles including Science (4), Nature Materials (1), Nature Energy (1), JACS (24), Angew Chem Int Ed (15), Advanced Materials (12), Energy & Environmental Science (7), Chem. Rev (1), Chem. Soc. Rev. (3), Accounts of Chemical Research (3) with total citation over 40000 times. In 2011, he was ranked as one of the top 100 chemists over the past decade based on citation impact factor. During 2014-2018, he was chosen annually as a highly cited researcher in Chemistry. In November 2018, he received the Humboldt Prize (Humboldt Research Award), an award given by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany to internationally renowned scientists and scholars who work outside of Germany (“The award is granted in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future.” //www.humboldt-foundation.de/web/humboldt-award.html)
