Brief Introducion:

Hiroshi Watanabe is currently a full professor of the Institute for Chemical Research (ICR), Kyoto University.

He received his degree (Dr. Sci.) in 1985 from the Department of Macromolecular Science, Osaka University, and joined that department as an assistant professor in 1983 before he received his degree.

He moved to the current institute (ICR) in 1994 as an associate professor, and became a full professor of ICR in 2003.

He has been interested in rheology and dynamics of softmatters such as polymers, suspensions, and emulsions, and has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers/book chapters.

He is a member of the Society of Rheology (SOR), the Society of Rheology Japan (SRJ), the Korean Society of Rheology (KSR), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Physical Society (APS). He was elected a Fellow of APS (2005), and is the winner of the Research Award of SRJ (2012) and the Bingham Award of SOR (2015).

He has been serving to the international community of rheology through several roles that include an international advisory board member of Korea-Australia Rheology Journal (2002-present), an editorial board member of Rheologica Acta (2002-present) and of Journal of Rheology (2012-present), a member-at-large of SOR (2009-2011), an associate editor of Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics (2008-2010), an associate editor of Macromolecules (2011-present), and the chair of the International Committee on Rheology (2016-2020).
